Kumira is a innovative platform that is designed to create community cohesion, connection, and integration for those with disabilites. It was founded in 2026 to help create experiences for people with disabilites and those without, right across British Columbia.

Kumira is the hub that sparks systemic change. By burrowing the sadness that is loneliness, and instead creating a community where people can get together, every community member stands to benefit.

We also believe that the work to advocate for deinstitutionalization continues, and that it cannot stop. 2025 and 2026 saw a wave of funding cuts to disability services right across Canada, slowly pushing disabled people to more structured programs, in which only some people benefit.

Independence is life’s biggest asset for those who have disabilities. By operating an unstructured program like Kumira, people with disabilities can choose what they want to do, in a schedule that fits their lifestyle, that engages them in their interests. Olivia Douglas Support Services BC is proud to deliver the systemic change that is sorely needed in British Columbia; a platform run by self advocates, for everyone.

Kumira was founded by a team consisting of Caicey Douglas, Raymond Zhou, Luna Jacobson, and Larissa Gunkel.
